Roche Harbor

When the ocean waves lap along the shore and a gentle breeze swishes through a forest of Madrona trees, it’s easy to see how Roche Harbor offers a sense of seclusion rarely found on the mainland. For 50 years the seaside community has opened its doors to visitors seeking a place to forget the daily routine and indulge in life’s more tranquil moments.
Originally established as a lime works in 1886, Roche Harbor transformed itself into a San Juan Island getaway locale in 1956. The resort presently offers a variety of accommodations, including harborview rooms in the historic Hotel de Haro and sumptuous McMillin Suites, where guests are invited to relax in front of a crackling fireplace or soak in oversized clawfoot tubs.
Roche Harbor’s McMillin’s Dining Room, with its Northwest cuisine and sunset views, provides an excuse to leave the room during the evening, while in the morning, the Lime Kiln Café turns on its griddles for breakfast.
In the spring, when the Pacific Northwest sky fills with a last hoorah of drenching rains, Roche Harbor’s idyllic setting is a delightful destination to stay in for a night or two -– or three…
